7 Tips for Protecting Your Credit and Debit Cards from Fraud

image3.jpgCredit and debit card fraud takes place on a daily basis in a variety of ways. You can't always prevent it from happening but you can follow these tips to make it tougher for someone to get ahold of your cards and card numbers:

  1. Report lost or stolen cards immediately. You can contact us 24 hours per day, 7 days per week if your Novation Visa® Credit or Debit Card is lost or stolen. Simply call (800) 369-6628.
  2. Memorize your Personal Identification Number (PIN). Writing down your PIN leaves open the possibility of an unwanted person finding it.
  3. Sign the back of your new card as soon as you receive it. Destroy any old or unwanted cards so they cannot be used.
  4. Use caution when giving your account number over the phone or online. If you use your Novation Credit or Debit Card over the phone, make sure the company you are giving it to is reputable. If shopping online, check that the site is secure. For unfamiliar websites, check other sites for customer satisfaction ratings and visit the Better Business Bureau, www.bbb.org, to look for complaints.
  5. Always review your Novation statement and carefully look over listed items to verify the transactions. If something is wrong, contact us immediately.
  6. Use eBranch, our Online Banking solution, to view recent transactions. eBranch allows you to easily view transactions on your Novation accounts between your monthly statements. To learn more, go to www.novation.org.
  7. Sign up for eAlerts. eAlerts can let you know when purchases or withdrawals are made on your account. These can be set up within eBranch.

Novation is excited to announce that in the first quarter of 2016, our Visa® Platinum Rewards Credit Card will be chip-enabled. This adds an extra layer of security to help protect against fraud. More details will be available at www.novation.org in the coming months.

Please contact us through our secure Communications Center in eBranch or call a Member Services Representative at (800) 369-6628 if you have any questions regarding your Novation Credit or Debit Card accounts.
